Bell Primary School's Water Grant, Photo for 350 ppm Climate campaign (safe target for carbon)

Bell Primary School has news of their rainwater harvesting in their newsletter (tank system built by Federal govt Community Water Grant).

And there is a nice photo of Bell Primary School kids making a big 350 from their bodies on the Darebin Climate Action Network 350 Campaign web page. (350.org is a global campaign with one simple goal: to reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere to below 350 parts per million; right now the level of CO2 has already reached 390 parts per million).

Wales St Primary School can be inspired by Bell Primary School! Let's think up actions like this, especially when we start doing the Sustainable Schools program with CERES (schools projects).

FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

One of our school values is

"RESPECT: We care for ourselves, others and our environment"

To celebrate International World Climate Day we came together as a school at assembly on October 26th. We made the number 350 to mark the proposed safe target of carbon in the year and to celebrate the completion of our water saving project.

Australian Government Water Fund Community Water Grants

In 2008 Bell Primary school received $40 000 from the Australian Government Water Fund through the Community Water Grant project. We have been monitoring our water savings since that time. We report regularly in the Bell News on our water consumption and we now use one third of drinkable water we have used previously. The harvested rain water is used for the children's outside toilets and the watering of gardens and grounds. It is through community actions like this that we can make a significant contribution to looking after our fragile environment.
